A Heart of Turquoise

$311.00

Turquoise occurs in various shades of blue and green, often with matrix interspersed (tones of black, brown and white). Our pictures show only a fraction of the possible color tones that can be encountered.

The colors in this Chinese Turquoise piece are unique to China, and differ from deposits found elsewhere, e.g., the United States. Colors and consistency can even differ between mines in the same region. One of the wonders of Chinese turquoise is that every stone is unique.

Turquoise has been mined since at least 6000 B.C. Many turquoise pieces have been found in Early Egyptian tombs. The Aztecs believed turquoise to be a holy stone and it was reserved for the worship of their gods. Persian philosopher Al Kazwini wrote that “the hand wearing a turquoise and using it as a sealing stone will never be poor.”

Textured finish with a citrine. Tabra one-of-a-kind.

Height 4 cm, 1.6 inch. Loop-to-loop Width 3.8 cm, 1.6 inch.
